Encourage deep root growth by watering more and less often.  Water in the morning to reduce evaporation and reduce the risk of mold or fungal growth.  Raise the height on the mower and keep the blades sharp, and leave clippings on the ground.  Invest in a rain barrel to collect rainwater so that you do not have to use municipal water for your outdoor areas.  Keep mosquitoes away by using a fine screen over the top, an overflow valve, and emptying the barrel every 7 days.

Even though we aren't in the drought period of our season, it is necessary to prepare.  What good is a rain barrel if we wait till the drought season is here?
